A Message From Your President Julie Hawkins

I started playing bowls 30-odd years ago totally by accident. I was clearing out some of my mother’s rubbish and found a leather bowls bag, cracked leather shoes and a set of bowls. I took them to the tip but for some reason couldn’t make myself leave the bowls there. Bringing them home I knew I would have to use them…and the rest is history.

I am grateful to my club, Sidley Martlets, for having the faith to nominate me to join the Presidential line and I will do my best to be worthy of their trust.

We had an amazing year in 2022 at the National Finals at Leamington Spa with Hannah reaching the semi-final in the under 25 singles and Rachel, Nina and Denise winning the National Triples; it was all so exciting to watch.

A number of lady bowlers will get their first County Match and be awarded their County Badge this coming season. Earning a badge is a great achievement, and the high numbers doing so, really encouraging for the future of our sport.

I promise that I will make every effort to be a good, effective ambassador for Sussex County Women’s Bowling Association and look forward to playing with as many of you as possible in 2023.
